Sometimes I feel like there is this underlying force in the adoption community. I hate that it is there. I do all I can to fight it. I do all I can to stay as far away from it as possible\u2026but sometimes, it\u2019s just there.<\/span><\/div>\n
I don\u2019t know when, why, or how competition snuck it\u2019s ugly little head into the adoption world, but it did. Maybe it\u2019s because of social media? The need to have more \u201clikes\u201d than the next page, more comments on your blog post, an amount of page views you can brag about? Who knows? All I know is, I don\u2019t like it.<\/div>\n
I see birth parents in competition with birth parents, adoptive parents in competition with adoptive parents; it\u2019s not something you will recognize at first, but when you get a little deeper into the game, you finally see it come out. Jealousy is a natural human emotion, so it makes sense that it can be found in almost all aspects of life, to at least some degree, but I really wish it didn\u2019t have to exist in this community. Think of how many wonderful relationships we may be missing out on, myself included, just because of intimidation, jealousy, or fear of being less than another.<\/div>\n
We are all in this together! We are all on the same team! No matter what side of it you are on \u2014 adoptive parent, birth parent, or adoptee; we are all experiencing different emotions and it\u2019s our job as a community to support and lift one another up. That is what it\u2019s all about folks, not a silly \u201clike\u201d button.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
